With my knowledge of environmental catastrophes and my proximity to ExxonMobil’s oil rigs in Santa Barbara, I’ve been fascinated by the company’s complex and polarizing history. For the second capstone course of the writing minor, Strategic Business Communication, I wrote an in-depth analysis on ExxonMobil’s past with the climate change denial that happened for decades and was recently exposed.

In this study, I began with the background of ExxonMobil and its history. I evaluated the case and the company’s response to the allegations made against it through examining its detail tactics and misplaced focuses. Finally, I proposed three levels of recommended solutions to regain public trust and restore its reputation as an energy supplier.
